- Can you please briefly introduce yourself and your business/blog?
We are 2 Dutch women from Amsterdam and we created a kids furniture brand 1,5 year ago: POMME.
POMME creates handmade furniture for children aged 0 to 10 years old. We focus on colorful, dreamy and playful furniture for tiny ones. The sweet and dreamy items are inspired by the fantasy world of children and have a natural touch.
This job is very excited and inspiring because every day is different. One day we are designing a new kids furniture item and the next day we are having meetings with bloggers, shops and other inspiring people. It gives us a lot of satisfaction and energy to have created kids furniture items from scratch and seeing them in people’s homes. We have many plans for the future…
- What were the biggest challenges you faced starting your own business?
To translate an idea to reality with all the (little) necessary steps in between. Every day brings new challenges, but it feels very satisfying to have completed and dealt with it and to get a step closer to our goals.
- Do you have kids? How old are they?
Florine is 31 years old and has no kids. Saskia is 33 years old and has a daughter of 18 months and is expecting a baby boy end of June.
- In what way did you change after becoming a mother?
Saskia: I think becoming a mother made me even more creative in many ways: trying new food recipes for my daughter, searching for cute accessories/items/brands for her and thinking what kids would like looking at my daughter as inspiration for POMME.
- Where are you originally from and what brought you to Dubai?
We are both Dutch from Amsterdam. We both came here for our husband’s jobs.
- Top 3 spots in your neighbourhood?
In Umm Suqeim: The Hamptons on Beach Road, the Italian place Mozzo for lunch and Kite beach.
- What do you miss most in Dubai?
We miss the ‘Urban feel & lifestyle’ the most in Dubai. And just to go for a stroll in the city centre where you can find a new shop/café by walking by……
- How do you balance motherhood and work?
Saskia: sometimes it is difficult to spread the attention between POMME and my daughter. I work from home, so sometimes my little girl doesn’t understand that it is working time instead of playing time. Luckily I have a very nice nanny who helps me a lot.
- What is the best motherhood advice you would like to give to new mums?
Saskia: be relaxed and keep your own life as well.
- What do you do to relax?
Going to the gym and outings with friends to discover new hot spots.
- What are your future plans and dreams?
We hope to concur the world with POMME. We have many plans, but we can’t share them yet unfortunately…
- Your Top 3 kid’s room styling tips?
- We love colors and we notice that the trend lately is to have a room black & white. Our tip would be to add some colors and let them be little.
- We like to add wall stickers to a room as it is easy to add/remove and it gives your room a total different look.
- We also like to include the opinion of a child as he/she has to feel happy in the room.
- What does inspire you?
Colors, new places, interesting people and dreams.
- Describe a normal day for you and your family?
A normal day for us in ‘the office’ is always different. We start the day with a good cup of coffee & tea (Saskia doesn’t drink coffee) and we talk through the latest updates and from there every day evolves differently. We try always to have a healthy and good lunch to have enough energy to keep on going.
- What keeps you awake at night?
Not much….we are living our dream.

We both are: creative, energetic, dreamy & explorers.
- What do you enjoy most doing with your children?
Saskia: swimming & playing together
